Middle School Teaching endorsements in Illinois currently require a minimum of 18 hours of coursework in the endorsement area. Some areas have specific courses/hours that are required. In addition, all middle grade endorsements require the following pedagogy courses or their equivalents: Students who do not wish to take both courses of the MSE program at Olivet must obtain a state deficiency letter prior to admission.

The middle grade endorsement requirements will be increased effective February 1, 2018 to require 24 hours of content, including a three hour middle school content methods course, plus passing a test in the endorsement area. Contact the Licensure Officer in the School of Education for specific details.

Note:

All professional education, general education courses for teachers, major, endorsement, and supporting courses require a grade of “C” or better for teacher licensure and graduation.
