COMM 495 - Professional Screenwriting

This course will immerse students into the world of writing for the screen. The class will emphasize feature film screenwriting, writing for television, and writing for new media - specifically web series. The over-arching objective of the course is to teach students how to create intellectual properties (IPs) and how to write commercially viable stories sought after by Hollywood. A strict focus is placed on story structure and certain key narrative tropes that will help take students’ writing to the next level and prepare them for writing in the competitive world of the film industry. This course is part of the L.A. Film Studies Center program. Prerequisite(s): Admission to LAFSC semester required. UG
