The Master of Arts in Education: Educational Leadership will aid those candidates interested in pursuing supervisory positions in PK-12 schools, such as directors or coordinators of specific offices such as special education, student services, school safety, student assessment, finance, and human resources, or department chairs to name a few positions, that do not require a principal license but may require or prefer a graduate degree. The master’s degree will also support those that desire to work in higher education that need to obtain their master’s degree to pursue supervisory positions. The culminating project is action research that incorporates theory and practice as it applies to enhancing teaching for improved student learning.  A GPA of 3.0 or higher is required to complete the program.

In order to pass the courses, one must complete all required clinical experience hours (if applicable), as well as the mastery assessment assignment(s) with a grade of 80% or higher. The mastery assessment assignment is linked to course objectives that are aligned with state standards, so passing the mastery assessment assignment demonstrates competency and ability to master those outcomes.

A GPA of 3.0 or higher is required to complete the program.

Program learning objectives are as follows:

  • The candidate will create relationships with board and other school leaders while developing a personal code of ethics and assess the school corporation’s ethics that will contribute to school law and ethical cases.
  • The candidate will focus on effective teaching and learning, possess a deep and comprehensive understanding of best instructional strategies and practices, and continuously promote activities that contribute to the academic and personal success of all students.
  • The candidate will build relationships to ensure that all key stakeholders work effectively with each other to achieve transformative results.
  • The candidate will examine current relationships with their staff, students, and community members with a sincere desire to establish a culture of learning and excellence.
  • The candidate will leverage organizational, operational, and resource management skills to support school improvement and achieve desired educational outcomes.
  • The candidate will examine facilities supervision from a safety management viewpoint and wise operational management that contributes to a safe, successful and productive school climate.
  • The candidate will exhibit an increased understanding of human nature and Christian values, with an emphasis on the individual’s ethical and moral responsibilities to his or her teaching field, students, colleagues, and communities.
