The Art curriculum is designed to provide both breadth (foundational study) and depth (specialization) within a Christian liberal arts program. The curriculum is structured to allow students flexibility in their search for concepts and art media most compatible with their career needs and interests.

Olivet’s Art program includes a balance of studio work, techniques, lab skills, and theory. The department provides guidance for students fulfilling general education requirements through advising and career preparation courses.

Career opportunities for the Olivet Department of Art and Digital Media graduates include illustrating for companies and publishers, graphic design promotional materials, graphic advertising, package design, web animation, digital photography, and photojournalism. Olivet also offers a degree in Art Education (K-12) accredited by CATE.  Areas of employment include, but are not limited to, art educators, advertising companies, photography studios and newspapers/magazines, corporations designing and marketing new products, as well as, government agencies.  A newly approved area of study is Pre-Art Therapy (Art B.A. with recommended supporting Psychology courses).  This program offers opportunities in counseling using art.  Employment opportunities range from clinics, private practice hospitals and group homes to name a few.

The studio facilities in the Larsen Fine Arts Center provide excellent resources for painting, illustration and ceramics. The center also houses a renovated dark room. The Brandenburg Art Gallery and Strickler Gallery exhibits students work year round. The Victorian House Gallery is designed to exhibit regional and professional artists to compliment the art program. 

The Department of Art and Digital Media uses Mac laptops and iPad in the courses.  The graphics and photography concentrations are required to have their own Mac laptop and iPad.  Drawing and painting concentrations required iPad only and highly recommend Mac laptops.

The Department of Art and Digital Media prepares students to become Christian professionals, demonstrating knowledge with a well-rounded general education to meet the needs of a demanding work force.  The focus of the program is preparation of artists who are uniquely expressive with concern for the spiritual elevation of the global society of which they are a part.
