MUED 454 - Secondary School Music Methods

The focus of this course will be music teaching for grades 9-12. Topics include concepts of learning theory and educational psychology for grades 9-12; lesson planning, instruction, and assessment in secondary performing ensembles and other music courses offered in the secondary school; National and State standards for music teaching; edTPA task 3, classroom management for secondary performing ensembles and other classes; the music program in the community; accomodations for special needs students; and administrative topics for the secondary music teacher. 30 hours of practicum in the secondary school classroom is required. Prerequisite(s): Upper Division status in Music and acceptance into Teacher Education. UG
