HIST 420 - The U.S. & the Plains Indians 3 hours Course examines the relationship between the U.S. government and the Plains Indians between 1860 and 1890. More specifically, it surveys the events which preceded the Battle of Little Bighorn, carefully treats the battle itself, and finally considers the aftermath of the battle, which culminated in the tragedy at Wounded Knee. Structured as a colloquium, the course involves a heavy reading load and literature review; it is designed for upper division history majors, particularly those with an interest in graduate school.
