The Master of Arts in Education: Library Information Specialist program is designed for teachers who seek to become school library media specialists. This program incorporates current practices in the dissemination of library information and the uses of both print and non-print media resources. The coursework addresses relevant legal issues relating to library information, web-based in particular, and library operations. A grade point average of 3.0 or better is required to remain in this program. The completion of this degree program leads to K-12 Library Information Specialist licensure (in Illinois), providing a grade of ‘C’ or better is earned in every course and that a passing score is attained on the Library Information Specialist Content test #175. Admission to the program requires a valid teaching license and two years of teaching experience. The program meets the American Association of School Libraries (AASL) 21st Century Standards and is an AASL nationally recognized program. Individuals who complete a minimum of 24 hours of Olivet’s program and who pass the content area test #175 may be eligible for a Library Information Specialist Endorsement at the grade level of their Professional Educator License (PEL).
